The Sea Lions
The Sea Lions are a tribute to the sea lions that once lived in this basin for the public to visit.
One resident sea lion, Rhoda, had other ideas about her residency in the Park. In 1946 The Providence Journal reported:
Rhoda escaped Tuesday noon, relaxed for a time in the park lakes and yesterday flipped overland and through the water to Pawtuxet Cove. There she put on a show for a large audience on the bridge, eluded would-be captors and finally disappeared in the direction of Narragansett Bay. In her effort to escape Rhoda climbed a three-foot wall and a three-foot fence. She was never captured.
The Conservancy and the Parks Department recently installed these fun replicas of sea lions to remember their time in the Park and the joy they brought to so many people.
