Have you never visited the museum but always wanted to? Have you only visited with your students and didn’t really get to enjoy yourself and look around? Are you looking for new field trip ideas?

Join us for Educator Appreciation Day, Saturday January 20, 2018. Free museum and planetarium admission for teachers and their families, just show your school ID. See a planetarium show, check out new exhibits and speak with museum educators about new program offerings for the upcoming field trip season.

Every teacher that visits will receive entry into a raffle for a FREE field trip (planetarium and workshop, up to 50 students – additional students over 50 will be charged at the regular rate) during 2018, spring or fall AND a free family membership.

Planetarium shows are:
1pm: NASA’s Journey to Mars
NASA wants you to be part of the Journey to Mars. Join us on a monumental journey of a lifetime to extend the frontiers of human exploration, gaze across alien landscapes and see our Sunrise over new horizons. Join us for NASA’s JOURNEY TO MARS then return to Earth to gaze into the night sky to see what is visible throughout the year. This new show uses the full dome system and Zeiss star projector.

2pm: Winter Sky Views
Explore our night sky! Take a tour of the skies and discover the constellations, planets, nebulae and other stunning night sky objects that can be seen in the night sky. Spectacular video imagery will bring viewers up close to black holes, star-forming nebulae and more, showing the newest discoveries in astrophysics while instilling a sense of wonder about our universe.
Planetarium tickets are available first come, first served. Children under age 4 are not permitted in the planetarium.

Also discover our hands-on workshops and learn about our new workshops including:
Our Changing Planet (Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8)
Using clues from the past and technology of the future, students explore how Earth has changed over its history. Hands on stations engage in modern research methods and help students make predictions about what this means for Earth’s future.

Engineering Design (Grades 4-5 and Grades 6-8)
Students explore the history of design and technology, as well as the design-build process. Students put this knowledge to use in a design-build challenge. Utilizing of some very basic, everyday materials they become engineer inventors building a wind technology vehicle!

Museum hours are 10am-4pm, last admission at 3:30. Come see what the museum has to offer you and your students!
