Request for Proposals for Art Work

Program Title: Art In The Park

The Roger Williams Park Conservancy wants to showcase the tremendous young talent that resides in South Providence and other neighborhoods of Roger Williams Park. We can’t think of any better place to use as an art gallery than Roger Williams Park.

Project:
The Roger Williams Park Conservancy is requesting proposals from young Providence artists between the ages of 15-22, especially those who live in the immediate areas of South Providence, Elmwood and nearby neighborhoods to create art inspired by Roger Williams Park, “The People’s Park.” Your work will be showcased and shown in the park near the Broad Street entrance, between Hawthorne Avenue and Miller Avenue in the grassy area near the Dominican and Haitian monuments (for reference). The whole area will be available but nothing can be placed on or around monuments.

The project is open to all disciplines. Your work should be able to be displayed at no extra cost, minimal extra care (keep in mind the elements), secure, and easily removed when the showing ends.

We’ll look at proposals and choose two artists. Artists may work together or separately on their projects. Proposals should be received for review by May 15th. Winners will be notified by May 31st. Artists are expected to start work on their projects by June 15th. Projects should be completed no later than July 21st and ready to install to be displayed by August 1st, will be on display until September 30th.

The artists are expected to create a project of their imagination. They can choose to make something related to this year’s “Dinos Amongst Us” programs (https://www.rwpzoo.org/dinosaurs/) but are not required to.

The Roger Williams Park Conservancy will provide an Honorarium of $500.00 and stipend of $500.00 for materials. The project should stay within budget, any extra expenses would have to be covered by the artists.

Please be advised that the Roger Williams Park Conservancy reserves the right to not accept or remove artwork that is inappropriate; please keep in mind that the park is frequented by families with young children. Any use of derogatory language and images would not be accepted. All artwork will be reviewed and approved by the Providence Parks Department as they are the stewards of Roger Williams Park.
