Conservancy wins award for “Community Joy”

On August 9, 2022 Brown University’s Swearer Center’s Community Advisory Board (CAB) announced the recipients of the 2022 CAB Awards at the Center’s monthly Community Partner Network meeting. The CAB is a diverse group of community stakeholders that advises Swearer Center staff on the implementation of the Center’s community engagement practices.

The Advisory Board named Roger Williams Park Conservancy as their award winner for “Community Joy and Resilience.” According to one park visitor, “My time in the park helped me heal and provided the space needed for self-care. I thank the RWPC for programming free events like those I attended, which encouraged us to get outside and share space with others during a difficult time in our history.”

The Conservancy is thrilled to be recognized, along with our partners at the Providence Parks Department, for continuing to make Roger Williams Park a beautiful, peaceful, public resource to restore everyone’s spirits and to build community. The Swearer Center is a terrific asset to Providence and we are pleased to partner with them on other opportunities too such as creating a park user survey with a local student.

In 1986, Brown University President Howard Swearer founded one of the first public service centers in the nation, now named for him — the Swearer Center for Public Service. The Swearer Center is a hub of community, scholarship, and action at Brown University. Through numerous innovative programs and fellowships that reach across Rhode Island and around the globe, the Swearer Center connects people through community engagement, the field of engaged scholarship, and social innovation.
